David's tennis journey began during his college years, but it wasn't until after moving to Kentucky that his passion truly took off. Initially involved in the adult hockey league, David discovered that with his growing family of five boys, tennis offered a more practical and cost-effective way to stay active.
He found the Mountain Tennis Circuit in 2020 and began taking lessons in 2021. What started as a practical choice quickly became a true passion. David now actively participates in tennis tournaments throughout the area and can be found on the courts practicing and playing whenever he has a spare moment.
His personal experience as both a student and competitor gives him unique insight into the learning process, making him an excellent coach for young players just starting their tennis journey.

Choosing the right racquet size is key for comfort, control, and injury prevention. Base it on your child's age and height for the best fit—junior racquets are lighter and shorter than adult ones.
Age Group | Height | Racquet Length | Tips |
---|---|---|---|
6-8 years | 45-49 inches (114-124 cm) |
23 inches | Lightweight aluminum or composite frame (under 8 oz). Look for brands like Wilson, Head, or Babolat. Great for building basic swings without strain. |
9-10 years | 50-55 inches (127-140 cm) |
25 inches | Slightly heavier (8-9 oz) for more power. Ensure a grip size of 4 inches or smaller for small hands. |
11-12 years | 56-60 inches (142-152 cm) |
26 inches | Transition to junior models (9-10 oz). If your child is taller or stronger, consider a 27-inch adult racquet as a next step. |
Check local sporting goods stores in Berea or online retailers like Amazon, Dick's Sporting Goods, or Tennis Warehouse. Prices for junior racquets typically range from $20-50 for entry-level models. If unsure, measure your child's height and consult a store expert—racquets that are too long can hinder technique.
